STOP…LOOK…LISTEN Hearing God’s Word – What are some ways God’s Word has been revealed to man throughout history God has spoken directly, like to Adam & Eve God has sent angels to speak, like to Abraham and Lot God has sent prophets to speak, like Moses and Elijah God sent His Son to speak (Hebrews 1:1-3) God sent the Holy Spirit upon the apostles – Since God has made such efforts to reveal His Word to man, whose responsibility is it to hear it? – How do we teach God’s Word to people today? Bible class, sermons, articles/letters, personal talks – Read Rom. 10:8-15 and 1 Cor. 15:1-4 Why do we preach the Gospel today? Will everyone believe it?
STOP…LOOK…LISTEN Obeying God’s Word (John 7:17 and James 2:24) – Is “faith alone” without action enough to please God? – Is “love alone” without action enough to please God? (John 14:15; 1 John 5:2-3) – Does Jesus require obedience? (John 3:36; Heb. 5:9) – What will happen to those who do not obey? (2 Thess. 1:8-9) – What is the role of willpower in causing action? – What does it mean to have a responsibility? – In what sense are we responsible for our own salvation? (Philippians 2:12) – How does hearing God’s Word help us do this? – Are you responsible for listening to God’s Word, reading God’s Word, and obeying God’s Word? – What can you do to prepare yourself to hear & obey it?
STOP…LOOK…LISTEN Using God’s Word – According to Psalm 19:7-11, what are some things God’s Word can do for you? – Read 2 Peter 2:9 and 1 Cor. 10:13. Is there any temptation too great for us? – How can you use God’s Word when you are tempted? – Read Eph. 6: List the tools God has provided us to resist and defeat Satan. – How do you put the pieces of armor on? Will it do you any good if you do not put it on? Next time: lesson 7!
