Internet Safety By: Caitlyn Stevenson

Information about Internet Safety  The internet is a huge deal, any child that can press a few letters on a keyboard can basically access the whole world.  The internet can be useful, but also dangerous if the students don’t know how to use it correctly.  The main negative about the internet would be cyberbullying, I will go into detail about that on the next slide.

Cyberbullying  Cyberbullying is bullying that takes place online which technology that could be used in this action is computers, cell phones, social media, text messages, and other websites.  Cyberbullying is different than regular bullying because it can take place 24 hours a day seven days a week, they can be anonymously and once it’s online its online forever.  Social media websites can be a good connection between the people you care about, but the internet can be a tool to control and harm someone’s life.

How to Deal with Cyberbullying  The one thing you have to remember about cyberbullying if it happens to you always remember never to respond to the bully.  Always keep the evidence and contact the police as soon as possible.  Block the bully completely off every social media website, phone, or address.  If you are able to identify the bully contact the guardian of the person or straight to the school.

Internet Safety in Schools  One of the federal laws known as Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) which means it keeps from people getting personal information online without the parents agreeing to it.  The internet safety is a huge deal in schools, they also have a website block where the schools can block certain websites so the students can’t access them through the school internet.

Issues with using technology in Classroom  There are five main issues with using technology in the classroom.  1.) Since technology is a big deal in this world it costs a lot of money for schools to be able to use the technology in the classroom.  2.) Different Social Dynamics which basically means there isn’t anymore face to face interaction in the classroom, just mainly behind a computer screen.  3.)Distraction  4.)Students using technology to solve there math problems or do there homework for them.  5.) Since using a lot of technology in the classroom the test scores have lowered.

Internet Safety Tips  Don’t give out personal information to anyone on the internet.  Be careful posting photos online, once they are online they are online forever.  Don’t buy anything online if you don’t know where it is coming from.  Talk to your parents about downloading certain images and documents.  Watch out for bullying  Social networking is a big part of the internet.  Research

Reflection  What have you learned from this project? I’ve learned that internet safety is actually a huge deal in classrooms now, and that teachers and staff takes it very seriously. Also by using PowerPoint with creating this project.  What were your most useful resources in completing the project? Online government websites, because they take place in the correct date and with the correct information.  How will/could you share or use this project? I could share this project with my future students and future parents to keep them aware of the internet.  What are some other possible applications of the technology you have learned and used to complete this project? PowerPoint, websites, citation machine and image searches.  How could this project be further improved? To continue with updating the information as the years pass and keep showing my students and their parents the PowerPoint.  If this is a student project, how will it be evaluated? If the information is correct, using correct format, using correct technology, no spelling or grammar mistakes.  Has this project led you to think about other technologies you would like to explore and master? If so, what are they? This project has not made me go into different technologies, I really like PowerPoint the most.
