Model United Nations

What is model UN? Model UN is an academic simulation of the United Nations that aims to educate participants about civics, current events, effective communication, diplomacy and globalization. More than 400,000 middle school, high school, and college students participate in model UN every year!

What do members in this club do? Participants research a country, take on roles as diplomats, investigate international issues, debate, deliberate, consult and then develop solutions to world problems. Participants attend conferences in which generally involve anywhere from 50 to several hundred delegates, with most students living around that one region.

What is a Model UN delegate? A Model UN delegate takes on the role of an ambassador to the United Nations at a Model UN event. During a conference, participants must use a variety of communication and critical thinking skills in order to represent the policies of their country. These skills include public speaking, group communication, research, policy analysis, conflict resolution, and negotiating.

Why should you join Model UN? Model UN promotes student and teacher interest in international relations and related subjects Model UN increases the capacity for students to engage in problem solving. Model UN teaches aspects of conflict resolution, research skills, and communication skills.
