The age of Rima’s parents at her birth indicates that in this aspect Rima is not equivalent to mainstream Australian society, and may be considered a standout. 1/3 of all school children (3 393 000) attend a non-government school in 2006. National centre for vocational educational research (NCVER) This indicates that while Rima’s attendance of a Catholic school is a significant statistic, she is still a minority as most school children attend govt. Rima’s parents are part of a significant amount of Lebanese immigrants in Australia thus indicating they are a good reflection of Australian migrant society. 93% of those surveyed believed there had been an increase in racism, abuse and violence against their ethnic or religious community Report to the Human Rights and Equal opportunity Commission Other people’s perception and treatment of Rima as an individual of Arabic appearance may influence her perception of her own and other’s cultures.
