Tropical Rain Forest Tierra Duran, Molly Mcteague, Michelle Jacques, & Mackenzie Tussing Period 4 January 2011

Location You can find rainforests near the equator. The Tropical of Cancer is 23.5° N latitude. The Tropical of Capricorn is 23.5°S latitude. There are rainforests in Africa, Central America and Indo. This map shows the Tropical of Capricorn and the Tropical of Cancer.

Animals Chimpanzees-a chimpanzee’s sharp canine teeth come in handy in a variety of ways. Like when putting on a threatening display to intimidate others. Fossa- a fossas extra long tail helps it jump from branch to branch Green iguana-a green iguanas long fingers & claws helps it climb and grasp. Lemur- the lemurs thick fur to helps to protect it from low temps. chimpanzee Green iguana

Plants Bengal bamboo- the leaves are long, narrow,& green. Soaks up water that may cause flooding. Coconut tree- coconut trees fruit has a hard shell that makes it flout in water. Jumbu- has little in its trunk to store water. Tualang- has a slippery surface to stop the sun bears from climbing it. Durian- has bark is ruff with many vertical splits epiphytes, lianas, & paastic grow on it. Bengal bamboo Coconut tree

Climate The temperature in the tropical rain forest rarely gets higher the 93°F or (34°C) or can drop below 68°F or (20°C). Average humidity is between 77% and 88% rain fall is often more then 100 inches a year. The tropical rain forest has two seasons there is a hot and a dry. This is a picture of the rainforest climates.

Precipitation It rains often more then 100 inches a year in the tropical rain forest. An average of 50 to 260 inches or 125 to 260 CM of rain that falls in a year in the tropical rain forest. Here is the precipitation that is in the rainforest.

Land/Agricultural land uses Tropical rainforests are most commonly found by the equator. The Temperate rainforest has Moss-draped trees, shrubs, and ferns adorn the Hoh River Valley, a temperate rain forest in Washington State's There are two types of rainforests, Tropical and Temperate. Tourist Attractions CostaRica’s most active volcano is the Tabacon Hot Springs. Manuel Antonio National Park is the smallest park in Costa Rica but attracts most tourists. The Tabacon volcano is in Arenal National Park in Costa Rica. This is an example of a volcano.

Environmental Concerns In addition to the Amazons rainforest, many other forests are being cut down. Rainforests that have once been great have been lost and cut down. According to some estimates, 50 million acres of rain forest are cut down every year. The United Nations says the figure is closer to 17 million acres. Every minute, 25 to 50 acres are cut or burned to the ground. The world's growing population has been a primary cause of rain forest destruction. Thermometer.
