Current Locations: What the city of Bloomington Offers Low Income Housing The waiting list for low income housing is 3 years. They are not taking any new applications, because of the waiting time. Properties 1,2,3,4, and 5 bedroom apartments depending on the location of the site. sections specifically for families, and senior citizens. Daycare services as well as a youth program at a community center.

Section 8 in Bloomington Section 8 Housing Vouchers The second type of public housing that is available in Bloomington deals with housing vouchers. Low-income families use vouchers to help pay for housing they find in the private market. Federal rules ensure that vouchers are targeted towards the families that need them most. A family with a voucher is generally required to pay 30% of its income towards rent and utilities. The voucher then covers the rest of the cost. Research has shown that vouchers not only are a highly effective form of housing assistance, but they also lead to positive outcomes for children, reduced welfare receipt, and success for low-income adults in the workplace. Housing vouchers allow the renter to choose a location outside of the housing development. Bloomington landlords are very excepting of housing vouchers. The location, however, must receive a good inspection report before it can be subsidized.
