The Definition for this Class a process by which information is exchanged between individuals through a common system of symbols, signs, or behavior

The Communication Model Message Feedback Sender/Receiver Encodes/ Decodes messages Sender/Receiver Encodes/ Decodes messages Channel NOISE – psychological, physical or semantic Context

Definitions in the Communication Model Context – environment where communication is taking place Includes: –Occasion –People –Task –Place (+/-) –Time –Relationship between communicators Climate (tone)

Definitions in the Communication Model Sender– the person who transmits and encodes the message -encoding is putting the message into words, pictures, or gestures

Definitions in the Communication Model Message – The Information that is exchanged between communicators –Conveys meaning and feeling

Definitions in the Communication Model Channel – the method, or medium, used to communicate information Can You Think of some Channels of Communication? Examples include: – –Face-to-face –Telephone

Definitions in the Communication Model Noise/Interference – anything that disrupts communication –Physical (can be heard or felt) –Psychological (in your head) –Semantic (language) Noise can be Internal or External It can also happen at any point in the communication process
