4 Current Situation 4 Eventual Plan 4 Our Role 4 Past Solutions

Mission Approach To redesign a cost-effective widened overpass and bridge with all safety and accessibility concerns addressed. To use benchmarking along with TQD to develop and decide upon an improved bridge design satisfying our customers’ wants within building code constraints.

4 Willett Kempton Coordinator Off Road Bike Committee 4 Tom Zaleski Parks Superintendent 4 Liam Campion Skate Shop Clerk 4 Robert Gifford Roller Blade Enthusiast 4 Jim Woods Handicapped Traveler 4 Brian Dearolf Mountain Biker 4 Anthony Ripanti Newark Pedestrian 4 Jack McFann Local Resident

4 Fit Within Budget 4 Wide Passage 4 Get From Point “a” to Point “b” 4 Stay Above Water Line 4 Support Weight

4 Major Gary Summerville Public Safety 4 Trails for the Twenty-First Century Rails-to-trails Conservancy 4 Recommended Bridges Amtrack cross in South College Rail line across Rt. 4 4 Old Structure

4 Close slats on platforms 4 Wide slats on ramp 4 Rumble Strips on ramp 4 Uneven approach to ramps 4 Railings on bridge / overpass 4 Decide upon ramp pitch 4 “Soft” region 4 Bridge support 4 Tight ramp railings 4 Add new beam to widen

4 Upon the initial prototype build, we realized that the railing construction was not adequate for our testing procedure. We therefore replaced the 2x4 railing posts with 4x4’s. Also, the 2x4 railings were replaced with 2x6’s. 4 In the design, the ramps were extruded normal to the platform. In the construction, we had to angle them to fit with the natural path and surroundings.

4 Start from scratch 4 Equidistant / symmetrical construction 4 Build second structure 4 Not rule out skateboard issue 4 Observation platform
