All rights reserved. 15 Power over Ethernet: Cisco PoE vs af Cisco has been developing inline-powered APs for 3+ years In the absence of a standard, each vendor was forced to create their own inline powering scheme All Cisco inline-powered APs (350/1100/1200) use Cisco’s PoE scheme 802.3af standard New emerging standard for Power over Ethernet Not ratified yet All current Cisco Power Injectors, APs, IP Phones, & Powered Switches support Cisco’s PoE, but not 802.3af Cisco will evaluate supporting 802.3af in future products, but we need to be aware of backward compatibility with current Cisco PoE products Cisco not planning to sell Power Injectors to power APs from other vendors, so only Cisco PoE needed for Cisco’s Power Injectors today End users can mix-and-match their infrastructure, however, by using Cisco Power Injectors with Cisco APs, and Brand X Power Injectors with Brand X APs
