Skill in Sport

Skill All of us have different skills. In sports, special skills are required to perform well and effectively. Task : In your own words, write a sentence to describe the meaning of skill.

Definition of Skill: “The learned ability to bring about pre- determined results with maximum certainty; Often with the minimum outlay of time energy or both” B Knapp, 1963

Think about these phrases: Learned ability. Skill is something you learn. You are not born with it. You improve with practice Learned ability. Skill is something you learn. You are not born with it. You improve with practice Pre-determined result.You have an aim you set out to achieve Pre-determined result.You have an aim you set out to achieve Maximum certainty. You are very likely to be successful. A skilful athlete can perform a movement successfully time after time. Maximum efficiency. You perform the movement smoothly, without wasting any energy or time.

In other words: Skill means you can perform and activity or movement to get exactly the result you intended, without wasting time or energy.

Techniques A skill describes the purpose of linked sequences of movement. A skill describes the purpose of linked sequences of movement. Technique describes the way of performing a skill.
