Schedule and Goals Understand the basic structures and functions of the cardiovascular system: – The Heart – A dissected Pig Heart – Blood Vessels Use stations to explore – Blood – Heart Measures Review

Lets make some observations… Atria-The upper chambers of the heart that receive blood from the body and lungs and pushes blood into the ventricles Ventricles-The lower chambers of the heart that receive blood from the atria and then pump blood out of the heart to the lungs or the body Right side-receives deoxygenated (without oxygen) blood from the body and sends it to the lungs Left Side-receives oxygenated (has oxygen) blood from the lungs and sends it to the rest of the body To lungs From lungs To body From body From lungs To lungs

Lets look at the bigger picture… Veins-carry blood to the heart Arteries-carry blood away from the heart Pulmonary-means to or from the lungs Capillaries-the small blood vessels where gas, nutrients, and wastes are exchanged between blood and cells Pulmonary artery carries blood away from heart to the lungs Pulmonary vein carries blood back to the heart from the lungs
