9/18/13 Objective: How do living things get their energy? Do Now: Where does the ultimate source of energy come from for all of life?
 There are 2 ways that organisms obtain their energy 1. Producer (aka Autotroph) 2. Consumer (aka Heterotroph)
Food Chains, Webs & Pyramids! 1) The Passage of Energy The Sun The source of energy for all life on the planet Producers (Autotroph) Use the sun’s energy.
Food Chains 4.L.3.1. Students are able to describe the flow of energy through food chains and webs.
Food Chains show how energy moves through the ecosystem in a linear fashion.
Notes: Energy Flow Objective: How does energy flow through an ecosystem?
Photosynthesis. What is photosynthesis? Photosynthesis = is the process that allows plants to make their own food from sunlight.
Decomposers are organisms that eat dead or decaying organisms. They carry out the natural process of decomposition. Fungi is the primary and most common.
Autotrophs A groups of organisms that can use the energy in sunlight to convert water and carbon dioxide into Glucose (food) – They use the process.

Page 44 # 1- 4 due this hour Label the paper with your Name Date: October 24, 2011 Hour: 4th Group: 1-9 Type: Classwork

Page 44 # 1-4 Where can I find the answers???? Answer: Read Chapters 1 and 2. FOCUS ON: Section 2.2 Pages 41- 44.

Page 44 #1 Compare and Contrast: Autotrophs and Heterotrophs Page 41: autotroph is in the text in yellow And so is heterotroph

Hey Noisy Friends! The Bookwork is due TODAY. If you are impatient with this large- class noisy interference (I am), then just do the bookwork on your own. PS The DATA TABLE PACKET (It was bright green) is also due today.

p44 #2 Describe the flow of energy through a simple food chain that ends with a lion as the final consumer. Sun  grass  zebra  lion

P44 #3 Classify a pet dog as an autotroph or heterotroph and as an herbivore, omnivore, or carnivore. Explain. A dog is a heterotroph; it is not a plant. A dog is an omnivore; Although I know dogs eat meat, I have also seen my dog eat french fries.

P44 #4 Evaluate the impact on living organisms if the Sun began to produce less energy and then finally burned out. The “right” answer: plants would die, herbivores would starve, then omnivores and carnivores would starve to death. Mrs. Gall says- if the sun “burns out” there are serious issues and we might die faster than we would if the plants all died.
