2014 new rules  Game balls must meet NOCSAE standards  Field players may not wear a face mask  Max. 3 players from each team allowed between the restraining lines for draw  Illegal contact includes horizontal stick position  Free position set up for goal circle violations changed  Fouls during and after the act of shooting will be penalized regardless if goal is scored  Penalty for red card is now 4 minutes  G3/4 and 5/6 coaches can only be on bench side half of the field

USL 2014 Points of Emphasis 1. Illegal Contact, Illegal Use of the Crosse and Cross Checking New emphasis on contact made with a horizontal stick 2. Body Contact NO BODY CONTACT, unless deemed incidental, shall be allowed by any player on the field 3. Obstruction of Free Space to Goal Consider whether or not the attack has the opportunity to shoot as the focus for making this call 4. Repetitive Fouls Excessive, repetitive or intentional fouls must be penalized

Emphasis: Equipment & Uniform STX Crux as manufactured – Legal STX Crux Re-strung - Illegal

Coil Stringing Illegal (3 coils)

Emphasis: Equipment & Uniforms Professionalism, Responsibilities, Ethics Knowledge & Judgment Positioning, Field Coverage, and Fitness Game Management, Penalty Administration, Mechanics Comportment, Communication, Teamwork Illegal mouth guards, they do not protect back molars

Goal Circle Violation by Defense Clear the lane above the goal line

MGLL: Modifications to USL Rules – Grade based GK2/G34/G56/G78/G78FC – Coaching Area-edge of sub box to end line. – Uniforms- under garments can be different – GK2 – Time: 4 10 min quarters – Substantial advantage goals (depends on grade) (USL is 4) – Modified Field–offside will be played on a mod. field holding 2 players back behind midfield line – Shooting net –not be allowed – One – two pass rule (Depends on grade) – Finish out 8m at end of each half – GK2 – Can shoot on 8m free position if passes have been met

Pass Rule  After each draw control, one/two passes must be attempted to a player in the offensive end of the field before her team may shoot. Failure to do so will result in a minor foul.  After each change of possession in the defensive end of the field, one/two passes must be attempted to a player in the offensive end of the field before her team may shoot. Failure to do so will result in a minor foul. If incomplete or dropped but recovered by the offensive team -> will count as pass.  Pass cannot come from the goalie  The pass count resets only after ball is outside offensive side of restraining line

One pass rule: scenarios  A pass attempt is counted if it crosses midfield (pass from defensive end and caught in offensive end).  Pass count does not start again after shot recovered by offense: (rebound, wide shot, or by interception of the goalie’s clearing pass)  If offense has made required pass attemps and defense gains possession but turns it back over to offense before clearing restraining area, then pass count not restarted for offense  Umpires will not tell players "they can shoot", because additional passes might be the right thing to do.

Three second good defense Player with the ball may not hold the ball for more than 3 seconds when:  Closely guarded/marked  The defense has both hands on her stick  The defense is in position to check were checking not allowed (U13 and below; U15 if criteria not met) (minor foul, change of possession at the spot)  Player with the ball takes her stick to the other side of her body or changes direction, stop count  Another teammate joins the defender and the 2 nd defender is in position to check…do not stop count  Umpire – HOLD UP YOUR ARM! Audible and visible count (1-one thousand, 2-one thousand, whistle)

Shooting space **F ree Space to Goal: think of cone from ball to both sides of goal circle  Positioning applies to non-marking defenders when an attacker is looking to shoot  Not a foul - defender drawn into the free space to goal by an attacker (&within marking distance) : (be ready to call dangerous propelling)  Not a foul – defenders double or triple team attacker with the ball  Not a (shooting space) foul - defenders double or triple teaming a player without the ball (foul might be 3-seconds)

Professionalism, Responsibilities, Ethics Knowledge & Judgment Positioning, Field Coverage, and Fitness Game Management, Penalty Administration, Mechanics Comportment, Communication, Teamwork Emphasis: Major Foul – Three Second Violation and Obstruction of Free Space to Goal

Mandatory Cards (4) Check to the head Defense Youth- G78 Full Check = RED CARD Slashing Offense and Defense Dangerous Follow Through Offense (shooting and passing) Dangerous Propelling Offense (shooting and passing)

Dangerous checks  G78 FC- "player-initiated" check to the head is a mandatory RED card - player must sit out her team’s next game  Not red (maybe yellow) if contact from misplays (fighting for ground ball, fighting for balls in air…)  Attacker runs through double and checks herself in head (no call or charge?)  All other levels – Any check to the head is a mandatory yellow card

Communications  Communication between umpires and coaches should be respectful and professional  Only the Head Coach or Captain(s) will communicate with the umpires during play  Questions vs. Comments  If coach feels something is not being called or called incorrectly, approach both umpires at half time along with a coach from the other team OR call a timeout and do the same  Misconduct  Reporting Issues

GK/2 Rule Reminders  Level C US Lacrosse rules  No checking  7 v 7 on the field with no goalies  4, 10 minute quarters  Midfield line is restraining line and 2 must stay back  2 pass rule  4 goal advantage rule  8m set up is a direct free position if pass attemps complete

G3/4 Rule Reminders  Level B US Lacrosse rules  No checking  2, 20 minute halves  2 pass rule  4 goal advantage rule

G5/6 A and B Rules Reminders  Level A US Lacrosse rules  Modified checking (stick must be below the shoulders)  2, 25 minute halves  1 pass rule  5 goal advantage rule
