Using PowerPoint to Create Short Stories: A Second Grade Lesson Plan Elsa Garcia

Introduction Subject Area: Language Arts Grade Level: 2 nd grade Technology to be used: Computer, Microsoft PowerPoint software

Background Requirements for using Microsoft PowerPoint:  Students must have access to a computer.  Students are required to know basic functions of PowerPoint such as: Creating New Slides Inserting Pictures Selecting Layouts and Designs

Background Choice of using Microsoft PowerPoint:  Allows students to familiarize themselves with this widely used presentation tool. PowerPoint also allows students to present their ideas in a structured manner.  Meets the needs of the Verbal/Linguistic with the written text and oral presentation.  Meets the needs of the Logical/Mathematical with its linear form.  Meets the needs of the Visual/Spatial by organizing images, text, sound and video.  Meets the needs of the Bodily/Kinesthetic by all the additions one can put into the PPT presentation.  Meets the needs of the Musical/Rhythmic by the insertion of sound to supplement presentation.  Intrapersonal is if students work in pairs. Interpersonal is if students work individually.

Using PowerPoint to Create Short Stories Students will first have a lesson on how to use the basic features of PowerPoint. Students will then write a rough draft of their short story on paper (higher abilities) or storyboard it (lower abilities). Students will create their PPT.

Using PowerPoint to Create Short Stories When students begin creating their short story on PowerPoint they will need to complete specific tasks on the presentation. Students will need to:  Have at least 5 slides.  Have a background.  Have at least 2 pictures.  Have the option of adding video or sound.
