Presentation transcript:

All, saved and lost, should ask themselves what is the purpose of their life. In view of the obvious design behind creation and the native intelligence of man, there must be a purpose or reason for man. By Joshua Harper with changes and graphic adaptation by Don Martin

The Purpose of Man King Solomon has been revered for his acquisition of many things, but mostly for his wisdom (see Prov. 1: 7, 3: 5-8, 13-20). “13: Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man. 14: For God shall bring every work into judgment, with every secret thing, whether it be good, or whether it be evil” (Eccl. 12).

The Purpose of Man Our duty is not just material accumulation – Eccl. 2: 4-11, Matt. 19: 16-25, Luke 12:

The Purpose of Man Man’s duty is not just the assimilation of knowledge – Eccl. 1: 13, 17,18.

The Purpose of Man The purpose of man is not the simple enjoyment of pleasure – Eccl. 2: 1, 10, Luke 12: 19.

The Purpose of Man To fear God is to respect and reverence him (Ps. 103: 11, 17; 89: 6-8, cp. Job. 1: 1, Acts 10: 2, 24, 33).

The Purpose of Man Jesus has all authority (Matt. 28: 18). Jesus’ words shall judge us in the last day (John 12: 48). Man’s place is to humbly obey (I John 5: 3, Luke 17: 10, Heb. 5: 9). Submission to God’s commandments is a test of genuineness (I John 2: 3-5).

The Purpose of Man Man cannot serve two masters (Matt. 6: 24, cp. I Tim. 6: 6-19).

The Purpose of Man Stated reason for man exercising his purpose: “14: For God shall bring every work into judgment, with every secret thing, whether it be good, or whether it be evil” (Eccl. 12).

The Purpose of Man How about you? Have you found your purpose in life? Do you know where you came from, why you are here, and where you are going? What are you doing now to ensure you know where you will be going? It is the one who follows the Lord who will receive eternal life; have you obeyed? If you are not a child of God, please obey His will today while there is yet time. Those who fulfill this solemn duty will receive the reward, while those who refuse will suffer the punishment of God. But the choice is yours.
