The Middle ages ( AD). And The Renaissance ( AD). The Middle ages  only one note at a time was sung at a time (monophonic)  Chant like, Religious, Church music.  Gregorian chant was the famous piece at the time.  The Renaissance -2 or more voices used (polyphony). -written for specific instruments and entertaining ballroom dances -Flute, piccolo and lute (guitar) were the most popular instruments. “ The recorder, an early precursor to the flute and piccolo, and the Lute, an ancestor to the modern guitar, were two of the most popular instruments of the day” (Beck).

The Baroque era ( AD). And The Classical Period ( AD). The Baroque era -means extravagant or complex. - age of wigs, decorative wigs and lace. -Echoing within the music from each instrument/ harpsichord, clavichord and organ -Row, Row, Row your boat sung in a round The Classical Period -Strict rules with defined forms of music. -symphony, sonata, and concertos are all forms of classical music. - composers, Haydn, Schubert, Beethoven. -soft and loud/ cadences, (series of chords signaling end). “The major innovation in instrumentation was the invention of the pianoforte, which literally means "soft-loud"(Beck).

The Romantic period ( AD). And The 20 th century The Romantic period - begins to break away from classical rules. - more emotional, new ideas develop - composers, Brahms, Schumann, Wagner. The 20th Century - no more rules! some stay within the rules but most break away, because why not! - composers experimented with forms and structure, a lot of imagination. -composers, Stravinsky, ravel.

Popularity Now Why It’s Important *Movies*  A lot of the favorite classic movies contained scores of classical music following and breaking old classical music rules.  Star wars, Jurassic park, and Indiana jones music are all composed by composer John Williams.  movies that are still loved and watched over and over today. “John Williams writes music that is largely inspired by orchestral music from the late 1800's (Romantic period), commonly infused with the same expression and emotion employed by Romantic composers” (Margaret).

Intelligent Music - people are interested in learning it, learning its complexities.  Without classical music dating back from 1400AD there would be no music at all.  Religion/Beautiful old Victorian ages for brought upon such simple ideas for us to build more complexity and imagination toward it.
