Tobacco 101: Module 2 4 Toxic Chemical Soup In North Carolina, tobacco-related illnesses cause the death of more than 13,000 people each year—35 people every day. Can using tobacco cause harm? Yes, tobacco use is the number one preventable cause of death in North Carolina.
