Goal 4: Reduce Child Mortality Target: Reduce by two thirds, between 1990 and 2015, the under five mortality rate

Facts and Figures 1990 – 2008: In developing countries, the mortality rate for children under the age of five decreased from 100 of 1000 live births to – 2008 Worldwide: Deaths of children under the age of five decreased from to Out of 67 countries that have a high death rate, only ten of them are on par with reaching the MDG of child survival. With the exception of Afghanistan, every one of the 34 countries with child mortality rates of more than 10% is in sub-Saharan Africa. In 2008, 50% of the worldwide child deaths was in sub- Saharan Africa.
