The room must be inspected professionally.  Immediately move students from the room to a new location.  All clothes, bedding and bags must be put in plastic bags and then laundered or washed on the hottest wash cycle available. Only then can the belongings be allowed into the new accommodation.  Other items including bathroom items should be bagged and remain in the room. Only clothing may be removed from the room.  Housing authorities then must bring in an exterminator to fumigate the room, paying special attention to the mattress and bed surrounds, upholstery, chair bottoms, and carpets.  You must follow the protocol provided by the exterminator closely.

This is recommended.  Occupants can usually return to the room within 2 – 7 days, depending on the fumigation and the exterminator’s protocol.  One preventative measure: tell students to never put their baggage or clothes on a bed or other furniture when traveling. Particularly when they are staying at a backpackers, youth hostel, or in a tropical environment.
