Welcome to Lifeskills Family & Consumer Science Dept. Mrs. Wagner

Lifeskills Introductory level class that focuses on the six areas of Family & Consumer Science Acquire basic life skills and select areas for concentrated study for the future.

Class Materials Textbook – Creative Living Skills – only class sets – can check out if needed Binder with tab dividers – binders will be graded at the end of each quarter Paper, pencils Index cards in spiral bound notebook for recipes Index cards for vocabulary

Grading Grades are calculated using the point system. You will receive grades for: Assigned & graded classwork Class Projects Portfolio Entries Unit Tests Foods Labs Binders Recipe Portfolio Homework Preschool Sewing Project

Participation & Attendance You are expected to be prepared for each class period. Attendance is important to keep on track and not get behind When you are absent – you are responsible for getting your work, completing it and turning it in!

CLASS RULES 1. Always Be Prepared –Be in seat when tardy bell rings –Have binder, pen/pencil & supplies out! 2. Do Not Talk While Others are Talking - Remain quite while the teacher is talking or when other students are working!

3. Show Respect - Clean up supplies and work areas - Put everything back where it belongs - Ask before you take things - Do not touch anything that doesn’t belong to you - Do unto others as you would have done unto you!!! We do not talk about other people – and we do not use Negative words!!!!

Class Procedures Arriving in class  Leave backpacks on top of the cubby trays.  Get your binders from the cubby trays.  Check the overhead for your assignment and begin work.  Be in your seat with your materials when the tardy bell rings.  If you need to borrow paper or pencil this should be done at this time.

Leaving the room during class  If it is necessary for you to leave class, please ask at a time and manner that will not disrupt the class. You will use the bathroom in the department. Assigned Seating You will have an assigned seat for the beginning of the year – this will help me learn names This can be changed with appropriate behavior.

End of class  You will put your binder away in your cubby as you leave the class. You may and are encouraged to take home your binder when you have a test or an assignment.  No one should leave their seat until I dismiss the class.  I dismiss the class, not the bell. There is no lining up at the door. You are not to be in the other room without permission.

Visitors/Out of classroom  If a visitor is in the classroom you will remain in your seat and remain quiet. We show respect to visitors.  If I leave the classroom, you will do the same as above.

Assignments  All assignments should be done in blue or black ink or pencil.  Assignments are due the day they are assigned unless otherwise noted.  When you complete your assignment, put it in the correct location.

Make Up Work  The day you return to class you are RESPONSIBLE for putting your admit slip in the basket and retrieve it before you leave.  You are RESPONSIBLE for locating and completing your missed work.  If your absence is excused, you have the amount of time absent to make up the work. If it takes longer, points will be deducted.  Tests will be made up before or after school.

 No food is allowed in the classroom. Finish all food prior to coming to class. You may have drinks in class – you are responsible for throwing them away or taking them with you. They will not be allowed if we have problems.  Cell Phones, CD/MP3 Players and Ipods are to be turned off, out of view and not used during class time. Class time is defined as the beginning of the class to the end. If you are caught using your cell phone during class – you will surrender it to me to be picked up from the office after school. If you are caught your cell phone must be placed on my desk during class afterwards.

All rules in the handbook apply in this class Do not touch anything that doesn’t belong to you Academic Integrity – Cheating is not acceptable. This includes copying class work from another student.

Cubby Trays 1.You will be given a printed label with your name on it. 2.Put the label on the cubby tray. 3.This is where you will keep your binder, index cards, projects, etc. You are welcome to take anything home when you have an assignment or a test – but otherwise it should be left in the room.
