If an idea is powerful enough, other start to believe in it; then it spreads and becomes real.

One Person, One Powerful Idea: Did your opinion change after reading the story? Why/ Why not? Name other individuals who have made a difference in the world.

Do Now: Grab on front table 1)Have hwk ready to be checked 2)Read the bios of “Great Peacemakers” 3)After reading bullet down qualities of that individual 4)Complete Great Peacemakers Like You and Me

THE DAY AFTER PEACE FILM

Thoughts on Peace Day… Can 1 person make a difference? Can 1 person change the world for a day? What is a global ceasefire/ day of non- violence? What are the benefits? Do you think its possible? Are we as humans, predisposed to go to war? Start thinking about: What can you, as an individual do to make peace on Peace Day?

Thoughts on Peace Day Why do celebrities often help people like Jeremy Gilley? Why did Jeremy choose to honor Peace Day in Afghanistan first? What message does this send? What were some of the difficulties faced in Afghanistan? Why would the Taliban agree to a vaccination?

Memorable Quotes by Jeremy Gilley:  “ There has never been a day in the history of humankind where the global community hasn’t killed each other.” -Jeremy Gilley  Jeremy on peace day in Afghanistan: “ …If it can happen here, it happen everywhere else.”  “If we are to move from a culture of war to a culture of peace then we will have to unite around the most fundamental issue that humanity faces – the protection of each other and our environment. 21 September is the starting point. Individuals can make a difference. By working together there will be Peace One Day.” -Jeremy Gilley Founder, Peace One Day

Approaching the th Anniversary  In Jeremy Gilley’s video, on , Kofi Annan of the UN is about to announce the formation of Peace day to the world as a tragic act of terrorism occurs in NYC and they evacuate the UN.  How did this event impact Jeremy Gilley’s mission?  As we approach the anniversary of 9-11, how has our society changed since that day? Are we moving toward peace?

OBAMA & BUSH INTERVIEWS ON Obama: pid= &bclid= &bctid=

Reflections on the Interviews: What was Bush’s reaction once he found out the 2 nd plane hit the World Trade Center? What was Bush’s goal once he realized this was a terrorist attack? Why was Bush not allowed to go back to Washington? How did the President react? Would you have expected him act differently? What is Obama’s view on the Sept 11 th attacks?
