Meet Author: Else Holmelund Minarik Else Holmelund Minarik is the author of the “Little Bear” series of children's books, which were successful as books, and were also made into a successful children's TV series. She was born in Denmark. Her family moved to the United States when she was four. She taught first-graders during WWII. She begin writing stories for her students when she could not find good books for her first graders to read.

Meet Illustrator Maurice Sendak Maurice Sendak grew up in New York. He was a frail and sickly child. Spending much of his young life indoors, he turned to books at an early age. His view of the outside world was often limited to the family that came to visit him and the little that he could see from his window. So he began to draw and to allow his imagination to run free. One of his best known children’s book is WHERE THE WILD THINGS ARE
