Public Libraries in a Common Core World October 15, 2013 Lisa Kropp, Children’s Librarian and Fierce Public Library Advocate

What do you already know about the Common Core Standards? I know nothing about the CC standards. I know a little bit about the CC standards. I know some information, but am not yet comfortable implementing them in a public library setting. I know a lot about the CC standards and am comfortable implementing them in a public library setting.

And WHY did I get so interested in this Common Core Stuff #CCpubliclibraries Who am I?

Why do we have Common Core State Standards Anyway? Teachers Common Core

Public Libraries and Complex Vocabulary

What do these titles have in common?

What is a Lexile Level Anyway? A measure of text difficulty Based on two predictors: word frequency sentence length  The text complexity of K-12 textbooks has become increasingly "easier" over the last 50 years.  The text demands of college and careers have remained consistent or increased over the same time period.  As a result, there is a significant gap between students' reading abilities and the text demands of their postsecondary pursuits.
