Copyright Duration? As a general rule, for works created after January 1, 1978, copyright protection lasts for the life of the author plus an additional 70 years
Fair Use What is Fair Use? In its most general sense, a fair use is any copying of “copyrighted material done for a limited and “transformative” purpose, such as to comment upon, criticize, or parody a copyrighted work. Such uses can be done without permission from the copyright owner. In other words, fair use is a defense against a claim of copyright infringement. If your use qualifies as a fair use, then it would not be considered an illegal infringement” (Stim,2013) Commentary and Criticism: Some examples for commentary and criticism are quoting a few lines of songs, a book review and quoting a medical article in a news report Parody: Parody requires usage of the initial source material
