The following are guidelines approved by the BSA National Council for navigating the transition. Review these tips while remembering to Keep It Simple, Make It Fun! Make every effort to have boys close to completing their badge of rank prior to May 31. After this time, they can go on to experience the new program for the balance of their time in the den. Every boy who hasn’t completed his badge of rank by May 31 will complete his badge of rank with some mix of achievements from the current program and adventures from the new program. Note: The constant is that these boys will have experienced a fun, family ‐ oriented program delivered by adults who care about them. Plan now for the program you want for your den and pack in the future. Using the new program, plan the required and elective adventures you want to be delivering from June forward—this program year and into the future. Take into account school and holiday schedules, local climate and pack considerations, etc. LDS Transition Guidelines

Beginning in June, have fun with the new program! Use the plan created in guideline number 3 and the soon ‐ to ‐ be ‐ available den leader guides to plan your individual den meetings. All boys may begin using the new program as early as June 1st but should be on the new program no later than the beginning of their 2015/2016 Scouting year (typically when school begins). Give your boys credit for the work they have done through May 31 in the current program and credit for what they will do in the new program from June forward. And when they reach their birthday, award them their badge! LDS Transition Guidelines, Con’t

Something Cool !!! BSA acquired ScoutBook It’s a mobile app that connects to Scouting Allows tracking of your son and others in the Pack Think Facebook meets Packmaster with-scoutbook/

PackMaster Updates New version, v4.02, now has the new Cub Scout program advancement criteria

Voice of Scouting Survey National annual survey of scouts, parents and volunteers Broken down into groups of respondents 6 of 7 groups showed an improvement in NPS One group didn’t NPS = Net Promoter Score

Huge Finding: Key Finding #2: Cub Scout loyalty is down from 42% to 35%, resulting in the lowest NPS to date for this segment.

Voice of Scouting Survey Results NPS = Net Promoter Score

Reason for Finding #2: Fun Matters: Of those Cub Scouts that are really having fun, their NPS is 47.4%, of those who are not having fun, it’s a –77.7%. Of those Cub Scouts who agree that they are having great outdoor activities, 94.5% are also agreeing that Scouting is really fun… and this group’s NPS is 48.0% Getting Outdoors leads to More Fun which leads to Higher Loyalty

Other Findings About Fun Cub Scouts: Parents:

Parents Comments: Promoter “AMAZING leader; she KNOWS her info and if she is not an expert, she gets [one]… Our meetings are the right length, relevant and fun for the boys.”

Parents Comments: Passive “Meetings need to be more organized and focused. There is too much time getting organized during the meeting and letting kids run around.

Parents Comments: Detractor “It’s boring, kids are running around most of the meeting and my children have learned nothing of value.”

Key Take Away:... she KNOWS her info and if she is not an expert, she gets [one]…

What We Need To Do: Get all of the leaders in your unit trained Know how to leverage your resources Make sure all meetings are properly planned Keep the outing in Scouting Make sure the boys have FUN!
