Broken Mirror

When people go through a traumatic experience in life, they can live in bondage to damaged emotions and not even know it. 3He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds 3 Ps 147: 3

Causes of emotional trauma It happened unexpectedly. You were unprepared for it. You felt powerless to prevent it. It happened repeatedly. Someone was intentionally cruel. event will most likely lead to emotional trauma if:

Childhood trauma increases the risk of future trauma An unstable or unsafe environment Separation from a parent Serious illness Intrusive medical procedures Sexual, physical or verbal abuse Domestic violence Neglect Bullying Childhood trauma results from anything that disrupts a child’s sense of safety and security, including:

Emotional symptoms of trauma: Shock, denial, or disbelief Anger, mood swings Guilt, shame, self-blame Feeling sad or hopeless Confusion Anxiety and fear Withdrawing from others Feeling disconnected or numb

How to receive healing from our damaged emotions Jesus Heals a Man Born Blind 9 As he went along, he saw a man blind from birth. 2 His disciples asked him, “Rabbi, who sinned, this man or his parents, that he was born blind?” 3 “Neither this man nor his parents sinned,” said Jesus, “but this happened so that the works of God might be displayed in him. 4 As long as it is day, we must do the works of him who sent me. Night is coming, when no one can work. 5 While I am in the world, I am the light of the world.” 6 After saying this, he spit on the ground, made some mud with the saliva, and put it on the man’s eyes. 7 “Go,” he told him, “wash in the Pool of Siloam” (this word means “Sent”). So the man went and washed, and came home seeing. (John 9: 1 – 7 NLT)

How the Good News becomes the bad News Insecurity Guilt Denial Self deception Inadequacy Vulnerable Shame Blaming Expelled Fear Judge Father Intimacy Relationship Love Truth Justice

1) Overcome the offenses 6 After saying this, he spit on the ground, made some mud with the saliva, and put it on the man’s eyes. (John 9: 6 NLT) We have a decision to make whether to allow our emotions to control us, or we take control of the situation by following the instructions of God. In Matthew 5 it says that God blesses those who are poor and realize their need for him, for the Kingdom of Heaven is theirs.

2) Be patient - healing is a process, it requires faith The blind man was called to go to the pool of Siloam to wash his face. He needs to take action and walk the journey by faith. 23 May God himself, the God of peace, sanctify you through and through. May your whole spirit, soul and body be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. 1 Thessalonians 5:23(NIV) Sanctification is a process so that we can carry the image of Christ

3) Take a good look of yourself The laver of bronze was a wash basin used by priests in the tabernacle in the wilderness, as a place where they cleansed their hands and feet. It is highly reflective. Healing comes through the application of truth to our hearts. We need to learn to have a dialog with ourselves.

There are three essential elements that comprise a healthy attitude, and the Lord supplies them all. Through Him, we gain: A. A sense of belonging. Those who are a part of the body of Christ belong to God’s family (Rom. 8:16). Once we fix this truth in our hearts, we’ll feel secure no matter what. B. A feeling of worthiness. Jesus considered us so valuable that He was willing to die in our place (John 3:16). C. A sense of competence. When we accepted Christ as our Savior, the Holy Spirit came to live inside us. One of His jobs is to enable us to accomplish whatever God calls us to do (Phil. 4:13).
