Middle Ages By Joe

Castles of the Middle Ages The famous Middle Age castles are The Tower of London, Warwick Castle, Leeds Castle, Windsor Castle, Caernarvon Castle, and the Chateau Galliard. A castle is part of a manor. These castles were probably on a manor. Some of the most important things on a castle are the drawbridge, the keep, the postern gate, the arrow loops, and the barbican.

Knights The knights were the soldiers that fought in Crusades. Their armor was very important because if they didn`t have a lot of armor they would get killed very easily. The armor was so important that it would weigh almost 36 pounds. The knight’s armor is a helmet, a cuisse, a greave, a gauntlet, a coat of mail, a visor, a shoulder piece, an elbow piece, a knee piece, a gorget, a tasse, a cuirass, a sabaton, and a brassard.

Cathedrals Cathedrals are churches which contain the official seat or throne of a bishop. Another name for a cathedral is a ecclesia. Cathedrals are frequently large, but not always. As the one important church, it always was known as a ecclesia major. During the 10 th and 11 th centuries the cathedral Clergy became more organized and were divided into 2 classes.

Weapons Weapons were very important in the Middle Ages because they helped you win wars, and there were a lot of wars back then. One of my favorite weapons is the battering ram. Other weapons were the ballista, a tower, a mangonel, and arrowloops. The tower was used to get over the 13 ft. wall that was built, so they could get over the wall. Arrowloops were used,so they could go right up to it and shoot the arrow, but the enemy couldn`t kill them because it was extremely hard to get an arrow through it. The mangonel is when you put something in this container and it lofts it in the air far away. They would usually put rocks or something really hot so it would burn the enemy.
