REMEMBER Vanier Collegiate Career Portfolio plan Grade 9 Grade 10 Grade 11 Grade 12 Life long process and living document  Complete or incomplete  Grade 12 Interview Grade 9  PAA, Creation, organization Grade 10  English and/or Christian Ethics  My Story (CE 10)  Resume, Cover Letter, Goals, Action Plan, 2 other items (English 10 – Decisions)  Presentations Grade 11  English and/or Christian Ethics  Self Assessment, Career Report, Practicum Update  Behavioural Interview and Portfolio Presentation Day Grade 12  English and/or Christian Ethics  Volunteer and work experience update, Vocational update, transition plan, etc.

Purpose of a Career Portfolio Personal Development Job Search Skills Career Exploration Further studies and training Types of portfolios  Most common use is in the area of career exploration (skills, abilities, and talents). It helps with successful transitions from school to work, or further training or education.

Steps involved in developing a Career Portfolio Step1: Collect  Gather as much information as possible from a variety of sources Step 2: Select  Relevance, what is important to you, think about why you want to include certain items, do them demonstrate your learning, skills or abilities Step 3: Reflect  Explanation, justification, proof, etc. Step 4: Present  Interview in Grade 11 Remember: Each grade at Vanier Collegiate has a portfolio requirement

Self-Managed Career Portfolio You know yourself better than anyone else does, or you will by the time you’ve finished your portfolio. Remember, only you can:  document your skills and strengths  add to your skills and knowledge  improve your attitudes and conduct  market yourself effectively

Action Plan - You must create an action plan for at least one goal. - You can use the template given to you or create your own. Decision-making Process Level A – Extend Knowledge Base 1. Reflect on what you know about the issue. 2. Research the issue. Find the facts. Level B – Make an Informed Decision 3. State the challenge. Explore the alternatives and consequences. 4. Make a decision. Set a personal goal. Level C – Carry Out Action Plan 5. Design and apply an action plan. 6. Evaluate progress. Revise as needed.
