Question 1: Name two advanced civilizations of Latin America that would later be conquered by the Spanish.

Answer 1: Aztecs and Incas

Question 2: This civilization of central Mexico built an empire during the 14 th Century. They built pyramids, houses, temples, and other magnificent buildings. They were very religious and offered praise to many gods, including sacrifice.

Answer 2: Aztecs

Question 3: This ancient civilization built their empire in modern day Peru. Their empire extended as far as Ecuador, parts of Chile, and the western edge of the Amazon Basin. They built roads that allowed traders and troops to move quickly through the Andes Mountains.

Question 4: This man was the first European of his era to discover the “new world.” Although Native Americans already lived there, he claimed the territory for Spain.
