The Holocaust

Why Hitler Hated Jewish People They did not meet his race standards. Perfect Aryan Race was Blonde hair with Blue eyes. The Jews were the reason that World War I was lost. Hitler felt that the Jews impeded any advancement that he wanted for Germany.

Final Solution Anyone Jewish, homosexual, gypsies, blacks, and Hispanics, needed to be cleansed out from society. Preferable for them to emigrate out of the region. 1935, the enactment of the Nuremberg Laws stripped Jews of their civil rights, political rights, and economic rights. By 1939, they were required to turn in any valuables that they possessed (jewelry, vehicles, etc.).Nuremberg Laws

Surrender of possessions resulted in them being unable to emigrate. This is when the Ghetto’s emerged. Warsaw Ghetto most famous. The Ghetto’s were areas devout with hunger and disease. The German Armed Forces covered this up by saying the people were contained because of typhus. Ghettos were soon used as a transitional zone between society and the concentration camps. In Ghettos alone, documented death tolls are over 80,000.

The Experiments All experiments were conducted without any form of anesthesia. Bone, muscle, and nerve regeneration transplantation's from one person to another. Incisions on legs were filled with glass, wood chips, bacterial cultures, and metal shavings to resemble battle field wounds. One person with no treatment was compared with a person given sulfanilamide (antibiotic) to test effectiveness at various stages.

Air pressure experiments to see how much pressure a person could tolerate before death. Some camps poisoned the food with various poisons to determine rate of death versus prisoner reaction. Dr. Josef Mengele, head doctor at Auschwitz is most famous for his experiments on children. Took twins 2 + years old, injected or used drops of various solutions in attempt to alter eye colors.

He killed all sets he experimented on by injecting chloroform into their hearts. Then, he would pathologically examine them in hopes of finding out how to increase the superior race. Sterilization experiments of men and women were conducted at various camps. Prisoners were given a drug called caladium seguinum. This would prevent procreation in the event they lived through the horrible experiences of concentration camps.

U.S’s play in the Holocaust 1942, War Refugee Board was established after the State Department admitted knowledge of the genocide. The U.S. had an immigration policy the general public thought that was the answer. It was found out later that the state department declined visa applications to over 90% Jewish applications.

930 Jewish refugees on board a luxury liner St.. Louis were refused admittance to the United States. They were sent back to Europe. Bombing raids plastered many targets in close proximity to many camps, especially Auschwitz. U.S. said any diversion in the air power would detract from the war effort and prolong the war. In 1944, the Jewish authorities here in the United States publicly pleaded with the government to bomb the railways leading to Auschwitz.railways

Eventually in late 1944, the War Refugee Board, under President Roosevelt, set up war refugee camps in New York, Hungary, and North Africa. It is accredited with saving 200,000 lives.

Other Ironic Facts Ford motor plant manufactured vehicles and sold them to the Nazi regime. There were also pictures of Ford with a photograph of Hitler in his office. Pharmaceutical companies in America sent drugs to the Nazi’s that were used in the experiments. These companies were McNeil Pharmaceuticals (maker of Tylenol) and Whitehall-Robbins Pharmaceuticals (maker of Motrin).
