The conditions for creating a hurricane For a hurricane to occur, it needs to be in the summer or early fall when it is still warm enough to evaporate the water from the ocean. It happens when the warm humid air rises from the tropical bay areas and into the cooler air above where it then cools and condenses the water, causing a phenomenon know as “latent heat of condensation.” if there are little wind shears then the heat can build up making low air pressure high in altitude. The low pressure air, that is now higher than the high pressure air, spirals downward towards the high pressure air causing intense winds to spin in circles, and eventually creating giant spiraling thunder storm.
