The LeHo community is open for everyone involved in home and hospital education with the support of ICT

Did you know that there are hundreds of thousands of young people across Europe and the rest of the world with medical needs, and that the majority recover and go on to lead full and normal lives? Hospital schools and home tuition programmes ensure that students not only keep up with their education, but that they can go on to achieve magnificent things.

Main project data  Programme: LLP – Key3 Multilateral Network  Runtime: January 2014 – December 2016  Coordinator: Fondazione Politecnico di Milano (ITA)  Contact person: Matteo Uggeri  Partners:  Università degli Studi di Perugia (ITA)  Bednet (BE), Staatliche Schule fur Kranke Muenchen (GER)  MMB (GER)  EDEN (UK)  Funditec (ES)  Children’s Hospital School of Leicester (UK)  Third Country: Children's Cancer Hospital (EG) + External Evaluator: Daxa Patel + Board of Experts

Main project data

The starting point  Students in hospital or ill at home face isolation and cannot access mainstream education.  ICT can play a key role in providing better communication and mediation of the educational processes whilst a student is absent from school due to a medical condition.

The issue of HHE (Home and Hospital Education)  Providing education to children and youngsters with medical or psychological needs: a world-wide problem  Every country has its own solution for it.  Need for an international confrontation on this subject  In some countries there are online/digital solutions that may help the schools and the family to guarantee the right to education also to these children.

Aims of this project  Outline key educational factors & good practices needed by ill students;  Explore and design ICT-based solutions which will enable children in hospital, in home therapy, or who attend school part-time, to access education.  Verify how technology can impact on the methodology and pedagogy in Home and Hospital Education (HHE).

Not only for ill people  Moreover, the initiatives adopted in the HHE, which represents an educational extreme are designed to be innovative and to improve education in difficult contexts.   They may also be effectively applied in ‘normal’ didactical situations.

So, what are our main goals:  Investigate the situation in EU on HHE in terms of policies, habits, rules, etc…;  Arise awareness around the HHE at many levels;  Create local and international communities on the themes of HHE;  Discover, invent and design ways to use ICT to support HHE;  Disseminate these innovative use to the wider possible community;  Make the project activities sustainable.

In a word: bui l d a network Main partners (all of us) Associate partners (schools, other networks like HOPE and HELP, goverment bodies…) Board of Experts All our targets groups: Main target groups: teachers other personnel/workers: technicians (IT administrators…) medical staff (nurses, doctors...) others (volunteers, students) schools directors and decision makers The Evil Coordinator Secondary target: policy makers; representative of institutions related to education; parents and parents associations; supporting institutes providing ICT solutions; high and higher education students representatives; students with a disability

Online Hub and Communities  LeHo is developing an international network for Home and Hospital Education (HHE) with the use of ICT as enablers.  The LeHo online hub is open for everybody involved and interested in the topic and includes resources that are being developed or collected by the LeHo team.

Online Hub and Communities  Services and Functions of the National Online Communities  find examples of innovative practices, documents, presentations, photos, and videos and share your own examples;  read and share recent news;  participate in the forum discussions: ask your questions, share your experience; start your own group with friends and colleagues;  find institutions that are active in the field in your country.

Online Hub and Communities Facebook group Google drive documents (i.e. Innovative Practices) National communities (forums)  Belgium (FR)  Belgium (FL)  Egypt  Germany  Italy  Spain (CA)  Spain (ES)  United Kingdom International community Video online webinars Open to anyone Online Hub Board of Experts One per each country /en/board-of-experts Newsletter

HOW ARE WE GOING TO ACHEIVE THESE GOALS? Let’s go a bit deeper

 Improving:  the education of the ill child with ICT:  by a connection with his own class/home school;  by a connection to a virtual classroom of ill students.  the profile and competencies of the hospital/home teacher in connection with technologies and their role.  the competencies of the workers involved (nurses, volunteers, technicians...) with ICT and their role. Objectives and targets - 1

 Provide helpful ICT solutions in terms of information and support to parents and families of students with medical needs.  Raise awareness of the contribution of ICT and digital media in support HHE beyond the network itself. Objectives and targets - 2
