Acid Rain By Ryan Souza Period 6 Mr. Leingang

Variables Responding variable: Growth of plant Manipulated variable: Amount of lemon juice Controlled variable: Type of plant Controlled variable: Amount of water

Problem How does the volume of lemon juice affect the growth of plants?

Hypothesis As I increase the volume of lemon juice then the plant with the most lemon juice will die because acid rain kills the cells of a plant.

Materials Lemon Juice 3 same plants Water 3 Spray Bottles

Procedure 1.Mix 25ml of lemon juice and water in 1 spray bottle and label it “A”. Mix 50ml of lemon juice and water in another spray bottle and label it “B” 2.Write down observations of plants before beginning. 3.Water each plant. 4.Spray bottle “A” on plant”A” 5 times. Spray bottle “B” on plant “B” 5 times. Spray water at plant “C” 5 times.

Procedure 5.Record observations everyday for the two weeks 6.Continue doing step 4 and 5 every day for two weeks. 7.Safety tips- none.

Conclusion In conclusion, I measured how the volume of lemon juice affects the growth of plants. First, my hypothesis was as I increase the volume of lemon juice, then the plant with the most lemon juice will die because acid rain kills the cells of a plant. My hypothesis was correct. Second, my plant with no lemon juice had green leaves until day 9 and had two yellow leaves in the end. My plant with 25ml of lemon juice had green leaves until day 5 and had five yellow leaves in the end. My plant with 50ml of lemon juice had green leaves until day 3 and had five brown leaves with holes. Therefore I learned the more lemon juice, the worst the condition of the plant.
