As well as this they stand up in court and present their argument in front of the judge and jury - all whilst wearing a wig! What a solicitor does. A solicitor does not do as many court cases as a barrister instead they do some of the following and many other jobs: Meet clients and give support or advice on the law. TYPES OF LAWYER There are two main branches of Lawyer these are called solicitors and barristers. Barristers are the ones everyone sees on the T.V standing up in court and arguing a case in front of the judges. They also provide people with legal advice on areas of the law. Barristers often are specialised in one area of the law such as criminal defense,( what I want to be). Solicitors can stand up in front of a judge and jury in court but most of the work they do is giving legal advice to companies or individuals. Some solicitors work along side a barrister to instruct him and help a client through a case. Most lawyers will have a certain subject which are good at and will take more court cases of this topic.

EARNINGS The amount Lawyer earn varies a considerable amount as many lawyers have more experience or their speciality subject is used more in court. Lawyers can earn a lot of money the range is huge though. You could earn from £100,00. to 1m. In the first job as a Barrister you could earn from £25,000 to £150,000. Once you've been a barrister for 10 or more years, you can expect to earn anything from £65,000 to £1m. As a solicitor a first job could earn you on average £65,000. Many of the American firms in London tend to have higher salaries, though. And finally once you have been working as a solicitor for some time you can earn more than £100,000. Some equity partners have been known to earn £1m.

FACTS ABOUT LAWYERS 27% of Lawyers are self employed. Women lawyers still have to wear wigs. A lawyer, according to Black's Law Dictionary, is "a person learned in the law.”
