Lesson objectives: To compare the strengths and weaknesses of renewable and non renewable energy sources Hong Kong’s energy sources?

In 2009, coal dominates the fuel mix for power generation in Hong Kong (about 54%), followed by natural gas (about 23%) and nuclear power imported from the Mainland (about 23%). Fuel Mix for Electricity Generation.

Energy efficiency Energy must be used sparingly Non renewable energy must be conserved

Suggest some ways of conserving energy in Hong Kong Transport Home Industry

Evaluate energy sources (advantages and disadvantages) Groups of 3

Tasks Make a venn diagram of the social, economic and political reasons for energy security Write a 300 word report arguing for more efficient use of energy Analyse the graphs Create a cost / benefit table for each energy source Find photographs of efforts to achieve energy efficiency in HK Annotate them to explain Is nuclear power a renewable or non renewable source of energy? Write arguments for and against Make a prediction: What will happen when the world oil runs out? On the post-its, list the tasks that have been completed Write down how many points each completed task deserves Annotate the A3 paper with the strengths + weaknesses of each task

Score each impact 1-5 1= low 5 = very high NameDescriptionEnergy typeUsesAdvantagesDisadvantagesTotal score
