Partnership: OMK & National Guard  Started Teen Panel together in 2010  Both partners always at the Table  Open and Constant Communication  Aligned Goals  Work off of Differing Strengths

 Staff  Funding & Site Logistics  Soldier Support  Military Connection National Guard

 Foster Resilience  Empower Youth  Include Teens in the Decision Making Process  Provide Growth Opportunities for Leadership Program Youth Development Goals

 Began with a Teen Focus Group – 13 Teens  Teens Developed:  Goals  Expectations  Application Guidelines Focus Group

 8 Teens  8 National Guard Year 1:

 9 Teens  6 National Guard & 3 Army Reserve Year 2:

 13 Teens  9 National Guard, 3 Army Reserve & 1 Navy Reserve Year 3:

  Complete 50 hours of community service   Maintain GPA of at least 2.0 or higher   Talk to school counselors about being a military connected teen and start a Military Teen Group Teen Goals 2013

  Participate in and promote military connected activities in your community, such as camps and Teen Summit   Attend ALL meetings and monthly conference calls throughout the year   Participate in a teambuilding opportunity with the Teen Panel members Teen Goals 2013

  Lead energizers/games   Make everyone feel like part of the group   Be prepared for meetings, calls, events, etc.   Be prepared to lead   No cliques…   Help wherever you are needed   Participate   Be positive/Can do attitude   Find a solution in a problem   Use time wisely/watch the schedule   Work as a team   Be appropriate/appropriate clothing   Follow packing list   Don’t go in opposite sex’s rooms   Pick up after yourselves   Put phones, iPods, etc. away during work time   READ and follow up   If you are going to eat “shared snacks”, bring snacks to share   Respect hotel space (keep noise level down)   Represent MN Military Teen Panel and Military   Respect other people’s property   Don’t order food after 10:30PM Expectations

 Submit Application  Fill out Application  2 Letters of Recommendation  Member & Parent Commitment Signatures  Phone Interview with OMK & NG Applying

 3 – 4 Face to Face Meetings per year  Meetings include:  Service Projects  Event Planning  Team Building  Life Skill Building  Speakers  Teen Time Meetings

 Held on months when there isn’t a face to face meeting  Calls include:  Event Updates  Member Updates  Reminders on Upcoming Events Conference Calls

  Be a liaison for the Teen Panel Members and Adult Advisors   Lead icebreakers   Lead AAR’s (After Action Reviews)   Lead group discussions   Have more than 1 year on the Teen Panel   Consider the whole group’s ideas, be open minded (consider all sides)   Be objective and diplomatic   Have a positive attitude and set a good example for others and newer members   Be organized   Be on track and aware of other available opportunities   Be approachable by other members   Help Adult Advisors with interviews   Be on time   Fully participate in discussions Junior Advisors: Expectations

  Secret ballot   Term, 1 year   Each candidate give a brief speech   3 Jr. advisors   Have more than 1 year on the Teen Panel Junior Advisors: Selection

 Teen Leadership Conference for 50 Teens  End of June (Sunday – Tuesday)  Workshops, Speakers, Service Project, Fun Outing, Team Building Games  Teen Planned, Organized & Implemented along with Adult Advisors Teen Summit

 Quarterly  Written for Teens by Teens  Includes (but not limited to):  Teen Appropriate Topics  Panel Member Bios  Upcoming Events  Teen Advice  Youth Resources  Photos Newsletter
