Article Summary Advocate Physician Partners (APP) [largest network of independent physicians in the Midwest] is partnering with eClinicalWorks to implement one of the biggest medical record information systems in the country. The APP-eClinicialWorks partnership will offer, “ real-time access and updating of patient information anytime, anywhere and enhance communication between providers and patients.” Approximately 75% of Americans receive their medical health care from doctors in small practices, however less than 15% of physician groups are using an Electronic Record System. Recently passed legislation, American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) is providing $18 billion in electronic medical records-related incentives. “It is clear that the federal government agrees with APP’s positive evaluation of the potential of EMR to reduce health care costs and improve outcomes. Newly implemented 360 degree view of the patient including medical issues, past surgeries, insurance information, medical images, prescription information etc. The future migration and use of Electronic Medical Records and EMR systems in healthcare networks across the United States, particularly with the newly passed ‘Health Care Reform Bill.’
