Working With Animals Saving Our Pets

What does humane treatment of animals mean to you?

 Animal cruelty basically refers to any act of violence, brutality or even neglect directed towards any animals. It includes abuse, use of animals in sports such as animal fights and also where animals are denied the basic necessities of food, water and shelter, or care.  This neglect may be because of ignorance on the part of the owner. Intentional animal cruelty occurs when an individual intentionally inflicts physical harm or injury on an animal. What is Animal Cruelty?

Animal abuse is seen in all economic classes Dogs are more abused than cats Cruelty to animals is illegal in all 50 states and a felony in 44

 Last year over 1500 cases of animal abuse/neglect were reported. Many more go unreported. –In the United States. It is estimated that hundreds of thousands more are unreported each year.  The types of abuse include:  Hoarding  Burning (with either caustic substances or fire)  Throwing  Beating  Poisoning  Kicking  Drowning  Mutilation  Shooting

 It is an obsessive/compulsive disorder in which an individual amasses a large number of animals (sometimes more than a 100)  fails to provide for the animals' most basic physical and social needs, including food, water, shelter, veterinary care, and sanitary living conditions.  Is usually in extreme denial about the abysmal living conditions of their animals, and dwelling.  Often this neglect results in the animals' starvation, illness and death.  Hoarding, technically, can be considered a crime, as it is a form of neglect.  House Bill 653 and Senate Bill 1724, commonly known as “Loco’s Law,” went into effect September 1, 2001, making animal cruelty a felony and punishable by a $10,000 fine and up to two years in jail. The law was named for a puppy called Loco, whose eyes were intentionally gouged out.  Prior to Loco’s Law, animal cruelty was not considered a felony under Texas law. Today, animal cruelty convictions are classified as either a felony or misdemeanor. Law
