 Reproductive problems (in both men and women)  High blood pressure and hypertension  Nerve disorders  Memory and concentration problems  Muscle and joint pain

 Put their hands or other objects covered with lead dust in their mouths  Eat paint chips or soil that contains lead  Breathe in lead dust, especially during renovations that disturb painted surfaces.

 Half of the housing stock was built prior to 1940 (MN 20%)  Just over 70% or 27,386 units, contain lead- based paint  Estimated 11,500+ low mod income live in these homes

 Remediate lead paint hazards in pre-1978 housing  Use safe work practices when rehabbing painted surfaces  Educate families of the risk of lead poisoning  Notify homeowners, homebuyers, & tenants of known hazards and test results  REMEMBER: You have to prove you've done it right, so document these files!

 In 1994, HRA received a grant to test children and rehab techniques  To data, HRA has remedied lead in 1,000+ housing units in Duluth  They assess homes, train contractors, fund remediation, test and notify

 LANDLORDS must disclose known information on lead-based paint and lead-based paint hazards before leases take effect. Leases must include a disclosure form about lead-based paint  SELLERS must disclose known information on lead-based paint and lead-based paint hazards before selling a house. Sales contracts must include a disclosure form about lead-based paint. Buyers have up to ten days to check for lead hazards

 Beginning April 22, 2010, federal law requires that contractors performing renovation, repair and painting projects that disturb more than six square feet of paint in homes, child care facilities, and schools built before 1978 must be certified and trained to follow specific work practices to prevent lead contamination.

 As Homeowner, contractors provide you brochure, RRP-certified firm  As Rental Owner, tenant notification, building staff trained and RRP-certified firm  As Homeless Service Provider, be aware shelters are covered by RRP rules

 As agency providing childcare, be aware your facility is covered by RRP rules  As non-profit housing rehab agency, use RRP-certified contractors, RRP-certified firm  As a volunteer organization that fixes homes, paid employees trigger RRP- certified firm
