GIS Tools Workflow of GIS Tools to Determine Properties Suitable for Migratory Bird Foraging Sites

Standardize Raster Data Reclassify Land Cover Data (1) agriculture and (2) forested wetland as foraging_sites Feature to Raster and Reclassify Soils as wet_soils Reclassify NWI farmed wetlands and forested wetlands as wetlands_national Raster Calculator (wetlands_national X wet_soils) to capture ALL wetlands at county level of detail as wetlands_county

Combine Raster Data Mosaic to New Raster Tool with input rasters in this order: 1. wetlands and 2. foraging_sites as forage_wetlands forage_wetlands raster dataset comprised of all county wetlands that are (1) wetlands converted to agriculture and (2) wetlands with intact bottomland hardwood forests or degraded forests Clip forage_wetlands to extent of county boundary

Nesting 1 Mile Radius Geoprocessing Buffer Tool to add 1 mile radius around nesting sites Feature to Raster Tool to convert buffered nesting areas to raster as nesting_buffer

Define Foraging Areas Region Group Tool to distinguish groups of foraging sites in forage_wetlands dataset Zonal Geometry as Table to get area of foraging sites using forage_wetlands dataset Zonal Histogram WHERE “zone dataset” is forage_wetlands and “value raster” is nesting_buffer to get output of foraging sites withing 1 mile radius of nest sites called forage_near_nest

Identify Suitable Properties Join forage_near_nest to geometry table Create new field called forage_group_ID Join landowner parcel dataset to forage_near_nest to identify landowners of suitable properties
