 To understand our ideas about masculinity.  To better understand the principles of recovery.  To look at typical messages about being a man and how these impact the experience of being in recovery. 4

 What do you think the ‘rules’ are for being a man.  What were you told and taught as a boy? 5

 What do you think are the main principles of being in recovery?  What do you need to do to stay sober? 6

 Societies have ideas of what ‘manhood’ is and treat boys accordingly.  At this point in our lives it is important to decide whether these ‘rules of manhood’ help us be and get what we want.  Many of these rules are ‘nots’, men cannot show weakness, talk about feelings, have fear. 7
