TYLER BURLINGAME AUDIENCE: PARENTS OF STUDENTS AGED 5-17 Flu Vaccinations

What Is A Flu Vaccination? This vaccination provides immunity to a variety of influenza viruses Recommended for all populations Can be given in a shot form or spray Inactivated Influenza Virus  Meaning it contains a dead influenza virus

Flu Symptoms

Vaccine Benefits Protects you from getting sick.  Protecting yourself mean protecting others around you Flu vaccination also may make your illness milder if you do get sick Flu vaccination can reduce the risk of more serious flu outcomes, like hospitalizations and deaths.

How this Vaccine Works? Flu vaccines cause antibodies to develop in the body about two weeks after vaccination. These antibodies provide protection against infection with the viruses that are in the vaccine Vaccines do not stop pathogens from entering the body, but help to develop antibodies to fight off pathogens that enter the body.  Antibodies= Good  Pathogens= Bad

Who Should Receive the Flu Vaccine? Flu shots are approved for children as young as 6 months old It is recommended that children ages 1 and up should receive the shot Flu shots are crucial for the elderly due to their weakened immune system Flu Shots are approved for pregnant women as well as people with other chronic health conditions

Who Shouldn’t Get Vaccinated? Children younger than 6 months of age People with severe, life-threatening allergies to flu vaccine or any ingredient in the vaccine  Gelatin, Antibiotics, or other ingredients

Why Get Vaccinated? To protect:  Yourself  Family  Friends  Coworkers  Acquaintances  Classmates *Basically everyone and anyone that you make contact with on a daily basis
