BARK BEETLE RESPONSE 7 Focus is on 3 Key Areas: 1.Preventative treatments /mitigation in High Value Areas (developed recreation sites, ski areas) Treatments include spraying of insecticide, hazard tree removal, reforestation. o Leadville has been treating these sites for several years, the focus will shift to Salida and San Carlos. 2.Large-Moderate Scale Sanitation/Salvage treatments in spruce dominated cover types per access, terrain and management prescription. o Greenhorn Project - Wet Mountains. o Other areas to be identified on the Salida RD. 3.Increase Fuels Reduction Treatments in mountain pine beetle impacted / susceptible lodgepole pine on the Leadville RD. o Tennessee Creek Project. o Implementation will include treatment via the FRLTSC. Mountain Pine Beetle & Spruce Beetle

BARK BEETLE MITIGATION 8

OTHER CONSIDERATIONS 9 Other water provider partnerships to begin in FY14 (CSU, Pueblo, City of Aurora) Waldo Canyon Restoration. Running out of feasible ground for ground based logging in 10 – 15 years for current CFLRP/Fuels target vegetation. Looking at second entry treatments in some project areas. Intent is for RX fire to be a large part of future treatments (UMC).
