Rock n’ Roll The 1960s era ended with a disastrous and tragic rock concert held in California at the Altamont Speedway on December 6th, Hoping to recreate the “peace and love” atmosphere of the famous Woodstock music festival that happened four months earlier in upstate New York, the concert was promoted as “Woodstock West.” However, the Altamont concert began terribly, and became worse as the day went on and at night it got even worse when a member of the Hells Angels( hired for security for the concert) killed a young man near the stage while the headliners, the Rolling Stones performed.

The Facts on Altamont Altamont was held in Northern California at the Altamont Speedway. The festival was held on December 6, 1969 and it was trying to emulate Woodstock. The Hells Angels were hired for security.

Facts Continued This was a free concert which brought a lot of hype as well as excitement It was a tragedy because 4 people died at this concert. It had all of the makings of a great day though. It featured Grateful Dead, Jefferson Airplane, Crosby Stills Nash and Young, the Flying Buritto Brothers, and was headlined and sponsored by the Rolling Stones.

Conclusion Altamont was a large turning point in musical history, it was the end of era. We believe it influenced current music because if this didn’t happen, then Rock n’ Roll may have still been large and the culture may have been translated into our lifestyles.
