Katee Mortenson Bell 1

 My reasoning for this occupation is that I love kids. I love to be challenged. This typical job is going to not only challenge me but teach me a lot of things about special needs children that I didn’t know.  Music is my passion and my life. So putting two things that I love together is making my dream job. I think I will go to work everyday with a smile on my face.

 I would have to go to school for 4 or more years.  I would also have to have 1200 hours of clinical training, which is a combination of fieldwork experience rooted in music therapy courses and an internship after the completion of all coursework.

 The average salary of music therapists is about $68,000.

 No school during the summer.  No school on weekends.  No school on holidays.  Also almost all people can benefit from music therapy. 1. Young children, including special needs. 2. Elderly people in retirement or nursing homes. 3. People with learning or developing problems.

According to the American Music Therapy Association, 76 new jobs were created nationally in This trend is expected to continue. There aren't many music therapy jobs but those.

 I could work at many places. 1. Schools 2. Hospitals 3. Retirement homes I would really like to work in retirement homes or hospitals the most though. I think it will be really fun and rewarding to work with all kinds of different people in this work field.

 Music therapists evaluate emotional well- being, physical health, social functioning, communication abilities, and cognitive skills through musical responses.  They design music sessions for individuals and groups based on client needs using music improvisation, receptive music listening, song writing, lyric discussion, music and imagery, music performance, and learning through music.

 I think that I do have the skills and abilities to do this job. I think that I will go to work every day with a smile on my face and enjoy working with everyone.  The training and education is consistent with my future plans. I intend to go to college at Wooster University to get my bachelors degree with music therapy.
