Background and History In1996, the first annual Funk Fest was introduced to the city of Mobile, AL. Created and produced by Variety Entertainment Inc., this unique event was the first of its kind and brought out thousands of Gulf Coast residents who took part in the day-long exciting festivities. Funk Fest is an outdoor music festival that showcases some of the top Old School, Funk and R&B musical artist in the world today. Throughout the day, patrons of all races and cultural backgrounds come together to enjoy a day filled with music for everyone to enjoy. Previous artist who performed were Frankie Beverly & Maze, Keith Sweat, Charlie Wilson, New Edition, Babyface, and Tina Marie just to name a few. Since its inception, Funk Fest has take place annually and has continued to draw crowds over 13,000 people. Funk Fest has expanded to other markets such as Jacksonville, FL., Charleston SC., Tampa FL.. and Greenville SC.
