CT Scans Advances in Technology help cure cancer. By: Kristin Day

CT Scans Computed Tomography – An imaging procedure that uses special x-ray equipment to create detailed pictures or areas inside the body

How do they work? Modern CT machines take continuous pictures in a spiral fashion Advantages: – Faster – Produces better 3-D pictures – May detect small abnormalities better

How are CT scans used in cancer? – To detect abnormal growths – To help diagnose the presence of a tumor – To provide information about the stage of a cancer – To determine exactly where to perform a biopsy procedure – To determine whether a cancer is responding to treatment – To detect recurrence of a tumor

Radiation Ct scans use x-rays which have ionizing radiation. – This is known to cause cancer A person dying from a fatal disease from CT scanning is about 1 in A person dying from a fatal disease in the United states is 1 in 5.

CT scans have… Allows for doctors to detect cancer early on Adapted quite a lot of the years Made a change for the better in society Given people hope
