The Philadelphia Adult Literacy Alliance Steering Committee

Goal: Develop a strategy to identify needs of Alliance Members Deliverables: Needs assessment (annual) to identify needs of Alliance Members Feedback: Continue monthly salons Roundtable to discuss, policies, needs, programs Review professional development evaluations on a quarterly basis to inform program quality and needs

Goal: Develop an Infrastructure to Meet Needs Deliverables: Draft schedule of programmatic activities that can be replicated Feedback: Concern about sustainability and overextension Communication: Available resources updated and easy to access, use of Facebook Affinity groups Evaluation template that can be modified for all PD sessions

Goal: Develop Strategy & Infrastructure to Identify/Review Existing Resources and Gaps Deliverables: Strategy for compilation and review of resources available and intended audience. Compilation of internal resources will occur via annual survey of alliance member expertise. Feedback: Certification for adult education Create professional development sub-committee of alliance charged with the staying current on professional development trends, best practices and availability of PD opportunities.

Requirements Membership will be open to all non-profit, government, or union stakeholders of adult literacy and workforce preparation services in the city of Philadelphia. Three levels of membership Organizational – those providing direct services Individual – those involved in the delivery or support of direct service in direct service agencies Affiliate – those who are stakeholders in roles such as workforce development, advocacy, funding, or regulation as it relates to adult literacy and workforce preparation.

Benefits A broad range of Professional development Both informal and formal For all levels of staff And for development of the overall field Examples:Networking, mentoring, developing standards, training, research, study circles, resource sharing

Literacy Match Citywide Volunteer Recruitment Campaign

What is “Literacy Match”? Promote and recruit for volunteer opportunities through the Commission Residents, employers, workers, community leaders, businesses, service organizations Pledge Program (March 4 – September 30, 2013) Goal: 50,000 hours of service 50 hours for individuals; 1,000 hours for organizations

How it Works: Engage people and organizations to help put adults back to work. Social media, grassroots outreach, strategic partnerships, targeted media placement Train and place volunteers into your agency/program. Automated/electronic process
