Silk Road By Brianna & Cole

What is the Silk Road? The Silk Road is a trade route that ran from northern China across Asia. The romans were trying to find China to trade gems and diamonds for silk. The Romans thought that silk was one of the most valuable things anyone can have. The Silk Road was kept a secret for over 2,000 years!

How Did the Silk Road Start? The Silk Road dated back to the 2 nd century. For the past 1,000 years the Romans could not find any silk and did not know where China was. Most of the people failed poorly trying to find silk.

What is the Purpose of the Silk Road? I think the purpose of the Silk Road is that it helped share silk and gave the world community a new fabric. That helped a lot. It gave what everybody has now! Without silk, certain items would not be here today, like scarves, night gowns, and fancy dresses. In Ancient China silk was worn by the very wealthy, and was thought to be an fabric that only rich people wore.

Did the Romans Get the Silk? The romans traveled over 1,000 miles. With not much food or water because, they had to go through the desert. It took a long time just to find the traders. When they found them they traded gold and jewels just for silk and got home luckily not gone forever like the others that failed their Silk Road trip.

Did You Know? Did you know that Silk Road was a nickname for any route that any trader took from China to Rome. In order to make trade possible, the emperor Qin Shi hung began to develop what has been called “in modern time the silk road”.

Marco Polo Marco Polo was the one who traveled all the way to China and found silk and traders from China. Marco Polo was the first person who came from Venice to China. I think he is a very brave man for traveling all those miles.

What Did Marco Polo Trade? He traded gems and gold, to get silk. The other people traded oil, jade and bamboo. The Chinese accepted the fair trade and got some gold, gems and other things to trade for silk.
