EQUIPMENT Children use to write with slates which are like mini blackboards. Abacus were used instead of calculators. Each morning children filled up ink wells for their pens. Journals were like scripts with no covers.

LESSONS Handwriting was a compulsory everyday lesson. Every year the work would change. For history lessons some children were removed from the lesson because of their parents beliefs. Each child was taught in these subjects: reading, writing, spelling, maths and more.

Teaching styles are techniques that teachers use when helping kids learn things. The most common teaching style in the 60’s was the rote method. This is when you must learn everything off by heart. There is also guided problem-solving and diagnostic teaching. These strategies are still around today or they may vary. Teaching Styles

WORD AND SORT BOXES Kids enjoyed using word and sort boxes to help them read and learn to spell. The whole idea of the word and sort boxes was for kids to match questions with their answers. Do you have anything similar to this creation at your school?

THE FIRST NATIONAL CURRICULUM Did you know the first national curriculum was created and used in The curriculum required reading, writing, arithmetic, grammar, geography, history, science, drawing, music and sewing for the girls. Is this what you have to learn about at school or is it different?

TEACHERS exi = cos(x) + sin(x) i ez = 1 + z + z2/2! + z3/3! + z4/4! + z5/5! + z6/6! +..., cos(z) = 1 - z2/2! + z4/4! - z6/6! + z8/8! - z10/10! +..., sin(z) = z - z3/3! + z5/5! - z7/7! + z9/9! - z11/11! Have you noticed teachers speak a completely different language?
